(My Story)

Hi, it’s me, Alexis Marie. Well, not really I’m still too, little! But I’m told my mommy and daddy longed in their hearts for a very long time for me, so I’m glad I’m finally here with them. So I’m going to let my mommy tell our story on how, I became their, daughter. The luckiest girl in the world!!

Well it all started in February 2006 with a phone call from Ashley our birth mom. She had seen our profile on adoption.com and wanted to talk with us. We talked for a few days getting to know one another along with getting to know Ashley’s mom Rene’ our biological grandma. In talking with Ashley it was as if I had known her for a long time. Ashley and her mom were both very easy to talk with. They had said they were very interested in a family from New York, but as they got to know them they had questions. That’s what brought them to our profile. They liked the fact that I was going to be a stay at home mom, along with us being very close with our families. As the days went on we all were getting to know each other and things seemed to be moving right along. They had asked us to have family and friends write a letter about how we would be as parents and send them to them so they could get a feel for us. So that’s what we did. But, two days later when I called to talk with Ashley, her mom answered and said they had changed their mind, they were going with the family from New York. My heart dropped. She said to call Ashley on her cell phone. Well, I left a message for Ashley. It went something like this: I understand you’ve decided to go with the other family, I hope you all find peace and happiness and I wish you all luck, thank you for taking the time to get to know us.

As I left the message, tears were falling down my face. I called Jim to let him know. I could hear the sadness in his voice. ” He said that God is looking out for us, and He’s just waiting for the right time, not to worry it will happen”. So needless to say we were both very sad. We also had to deal with all the letters our family and friends wrote for us. I felt so bad they all took the time and here they sit. Well, Jim decided we were going to Florida, on vacation to get a better perspective on things. Up to this point it had been a long road talking with birth moms, not being chosen time after time. So time away sounded good. Before we left I was still feeling sad and Jim said, “you know what will make you feel better, give you closure, send those letters”. So I did!! And on February 28th, I got the best phone call I could have ever imagined!!! Rene’ called and said “they received our letters and they’ve been reading them. To please call her back they didn’t want to make a mistake and go with the other family”. I called Jim so fast. My heart was beating like crazy, I had tears in my eyes and I was shaking. Could this be happening?!! The next few days were crazy!!. We all talked on the phone asking questions, talking to attorneys and working things out. Ashley and Rene’ wanted to meet us. So on March 6th we flew out of Ontario Airport at 11 pm arriving in Atlanta Georgia at 5 am with a connecting flight to Dayton Ohio at 8 am. Then off to Lima Ohio in our rented Trail blazer. To meet with Ashley, Rene, Jessica and Aleia ( Ashley’s 16 month old daughter and Alexis’s biological sister). It was snowing when we arrived!

We were all meeting for dinner. We got a little lost in route to the restaurant so we called Rene’ for directions and she said she and Ashley would meet us up front. Then we finally meet! We hugged each other, really hugged each other. It’s a moment that myself and Jim will never forget! We had a great dinner, very relaxed easy going. It was, Perfect!

The next day we were meeting Ashley’s attorney so Jim and I met Ashley and Rene’ at MacDonald’s for breakfast. They had the best hot chocolate that I ever tasted, it was great! We sat and talked and ate and as we were leaving it was snowing. It was a perfect picture.

As we drove thru this beautiful old town they pointed out the Hospital that our daughter will be born in. The drive was very surreal. And it was still slightly snowing.

We meet with the attorneys’ assistant in this great office with a wall lined bookshelf that we all took pictures in front of.

We all left the attorneys office and we followed Ashley and Rene’ through town again, they called our cell phone and wanted us to pull over and give us something. So we did. It was a card, our first card…. Congratulations Mommy and Daddy.

As we were driving down this beautiful stretch of highway with trees on each side the snow falling gently down, it was quite in the car. It was at that moment I turned to Jim with tear filled eyes and said, “We’re going to be a Mommy and Daddy! He smiled!!

On March 27, 2006 at 11:58 am---- an angel was born, Alexis Marie
